Simon, former Director of Music at King's School, Macclesfield, is pursuing
an expanding and varied freelance career as an inspirational Conductor,
Tutor, and Organist. Simon currently holds a number of influential posts
as - Organ Tutor and Academic Tutor at Junior RNCM - Director of the JRNCM
Vocal Ensemble – Founder and Former Director of Hallé Choral Academy -
Organist and Répétiteur – Musical Director of Prestbury Choral Society and
Hayfield Singers – National and international Examiner
for ABRSM. Simon is also an experienced trumpet teacher and player.
Simon is available for engagements as tutor, conductor, répétiteur, and
organist - or simply to provide advice!

Originally from Sussex, Simon studied the organ with Alan Thurlow at Chichester
Cathedral and the trumpet with Crispian Steele-Perkins. Simon then moved
north to the University of Sheffield to read for the Degree of BMus(Hons),
continuing his organ studies with Graham Matthews at Sheffield Cathedral,
and whilst there he directed many of the University’s Orchestras, Ensembles
and Choirs. As an RNCM Postgraduate, he studied the organ with Eric Chadwick,
Ronald Frost and Gillian Weir and the harpsichord with David Francis before
returning to Sheffield to research The Victorian Organ.
Simon has held numerous influential musical posts in the South Manchester
area and is well known and highly respected as an inspirational conductor,
teacher and mentor. He concluded his 25 years in schools as Director of
Music at the King’s School in Macclesfield and is now pursuing an expanding
and varied freelance career.
Simon became an Examiner for ABRSM in 2002 and has been the Organ Tutor
and an Academic Tutor at Junior RNCM since the early 1990’s; he is also
Director of the JRNCM Vocal Ensemble. He guest conducted the RNCM Symphony
Chorus in 2015 in Mahler’s 2nd Symphony, and in the British Premier of
Penderecki’s 7th Symphony, conducted by the composer, at the Bridgewater
Hall. Simon was the Founding Director of the then unique “Hallé Choral
Academy” in September 2014. This choir now continues as part of the Hallé
Community Education and Outreach Programme, building the skills and confidence
of choral singers.
The Royal College of Organists appointed Simon as an Accredited Teacher
in March 2015; 28 highly experienced organists giving individual and group
tuition to aspiring players of all ages and standards.
He has given Organ Recitals in the cathedrals in Arundel, Chichester,
Dunkeld, Sheffield, Vienna, and most recently at Brinkburn Priory in Northumberland.
